I met Steve through my college roommate and good friend Chris (check out his wedding here!). I was honored when Steve asked me to shoot his wedding. That meant my first major bit of travel; Steve and Bethany married each other in Topeka Kansas! I love new experiences and seeing new places, so I jumped at the opportunity. Given that I’d never traveled by myself with enough gear to shoot a wedding on my own, I was a little nervous that I wouldn’t have everything I’d need. My triple-checking paid off though, and everything went great! After a rehearsal Friday night, Steve and Bethany hosted a family and friends dinner. Bethany is one of four sisters, and both families have many friends, so there was tons of laughing and celebration. Both families were incredibly gracious and hospitable, and I had a wonderful time with them. Even though I’m technically working at weddings, I still end up feeling like an old friend or part of the family sometimes. Steve and Bethany were married at Topeka Bible Church, and they had their reception there as well. It was a full day of celebration, family, and laughter. Even though it was a bit too cold for many pictures outdoors, the family was still brave enough to give it a try. After this wedding, I think I’m ready to travel more!
