• The England Family in Gloucester, Virginia (January 2015)

    On: January 24, 2015 | In: Lifestyle |  Like

I don’t do many family photoshoots. I don’t mind them, but they aren’t really where I’m the most comfortable behind a camera. I’m happy to do them for close friends, though! Ben and Brittany England have known me for a long time. I was honored that they asked me to document their family. Since this was in January, outside wasn’t an option. I decided to light everything using a window in their bedroom and the kids’ room, and then a strobe mimicking a window. Check out some of the pictures! (more…)

  • My trip to New York City (November 2014)

    On: November 29, 2014 | In: Lifestyle |  Like

Earlier this month, I got the chance to travel to New York City for the first time. My good buddy and mentor Rich Coleman, Ryan and Rach Photography, Sarah D’Ambra Photography, and Rich’s friend Ramone. We were only there for a couple days, so we made sure to pack them full. Friday, we got breakfast in Columbus Circle, and then met up with a model we’d hired to have a session in Central Park. Keep reading for details! (more…)

  • Dylan and Madi just got married in Williamsburg, VA (November 2014)

    On: November 14, 2014 | In: Weddings |  Like

You might recognize Dylan and Madi from Dylan’s brother Schuyler’s wedding earlier this year. Dylan and Madi chose a crisp November day for their wedding, and lucked out with beautiful weather. I photographed this wedding solo, so the cool weather was appreciated while I was running around keeping up with everything. Dylan and Madi are an incredibly kind young couple and it was a pleasure photographing their wedding. Dylan is enlisting soon, and I wish him the best! (more…)

  • Jayson and Olivia just got married in Hartfield Virginia!

You might remember Jayson and Olivia from their awesome engagement session earlier this year. I don’t like picking favorites, but the lighting at their wedding location was easily some of the best I’ve ever seen. October is quickly becoming my favorite wedding month, and light like this coupled with great temperatures are the reason why! (more…)

  • Louie and Chelsea just got engaged in Williamsburg, Virginia!

    On: October 14, 2014 | In: Lifestyle |  Like

My good friends Louie and Chelsea are engaged! I’ve known both of them for around 10 years, so I was of course thrilled to shoot their engagement photos. I’ll be a groomsman in their wedding, so I won’t be shooting that (well, I’ll probably try to at least shoot some pictures of the two of them, I don’t know if I can just attend a wedding as a guest). We wandered around Colonial Williamsburg for an hour or so, and I experimented with a few portrait methods I’ve been workshopping this year. I’m really happy with the results! (more…)

  • Jordan and Melani just got married at the Ware River Yacht Club in Gloucester, Virginia!

    On: September 27, 2014 | In: Weddings |  1

This wedding was one of the most fun this year! Along with their family and friends, Jordan and Melani partied all day and into the night, and Mason, Savannah, and I were there for the entire thing. I actually photographed my first wedding ever here at the Ware River Yacht Club, so it was cool getting to come back and photograph another. I’d like to think that I’ve gotten a little better in the five years since then! The sun sets over the water at the perfect angle for great pictures on the long dock, and all the windows make for very pretty reception lighting. (more…)

  • Schuyler and Courtney just got married in Chesapeake Virginia (September 2014)

    On: September 12, 2014 | In: Weddings |  1

Here are some pictures from Schuyler and Courtney’s wedding in Chesapeake, Virginia. As you can see, the weather wasn’t perfect, but Courtney and Schuyler didn’t let that affect their excitement. I arranged to have a separate bride and groom session at Yorktown Beach the next week, since it got dark so quickly on their wedding day. Courtney chose peacock shaded bridesmaid dresses. They’re cool! They went really well with the rustic look that Schuyler and Courtney were going for with their decorations and location. (more…)

  • Adam and Stephanie just got married in Muskegon, Michigan!

    On: June 20, 2014 | In: Weddings |  Like

Remember my good friend Chris’s wedding? Well his little sister Stephanie just got married! Her new husband Adam is a towering 6’8″ish, so figuring out great ways to pose them was a fun challenge. I flew to Grand Rapids Michigan for the second time in 3 weeks, this time with most of my gear. I’ve gotten to travel quite a few times this year for weddings, and while it’s always a challenge, it’s always a lot of fun. (more…)

  • Matt and Christy just got married at the Freight Shed in Yorktown, Virginia (June 2014)

    On: June 7, 2014 | In: Weddings |  1

Matt and Christy chose the beachfront of the Freight Shed in Yorktown, Virginia for their wedding day. It had already been a busy weekend for Mason and I with the Orphan Helpers Golf Classic the day before, but we were excited to be shooting at Yorktown Beach! The sun sets in a great location, and Matt and Christy agreed to take their portraits after the reception (which is my new favorite time at a wedding to shoot portraits!) I left Mason with the guys while¬† my awesome assistant Savannah and I headed to Christy’s hotel. Matt and his brothers (and other groomsmen) had a fun time joking around and hanging out with family, and then they took the tram up to the Yorktown Monument so Matt could have a first look with Christy. • Orphan Helpers 8th Golf Classic (June 2014)

    On: June 6, 2014 | In: Events |  Like

Orphan Helpers has a special place in my heart. My first graphic design job out of college, they are an organization with a goal that is impossible not to support. Orphan Helpers provides schooling, mentorship, counseling, and job training to orphaned, abused, and incarcerated kids in Honduras and El Salvador. Even after I no longer worked for them, I maintained close ties with them. In 2013 I had the privilege of taking Orphan Helpers on as a freelance design client. I have enjoyed designing their marketing materials and photographing their events. I’ve been able to visit Honduras twice (once with Orphan Helpers, once without), and many of my pictures are still in use in their marketing. Each year they hold a golf tournament at Fords Colony in Williamsburg, Virginia. Mason and I each took an assistant and drove the two separate golf courses to take pictures of each of the 45 teams for a thank-you postcard. We also covered the dinner and raffle after the tournament. (more…)
